2025 Winners and Nominees

The winners of the 2025 Excellence in Global Online Protection Awards were announced at IPPPRI25 on Tuesday 20 May 2025.

This award recognises an individual who has demonstrated exceptional and inspirational leadership in their efforts to tackle the global threat of online child sexual abuse.

Winner

Richard Pursey

In recognition of his work as co-founder and chairman of SafetoNet, and his work as a relentless advocate for the voiceless, a leader who has dedicated over a decade of his life to creating real, preventable solutions to online harms affecting children across the globe. Richard created HarmBlock: a world-first, on-device image classification technology that prevents the creation, viewing, and sharing of harmful content in real-time - including nudes, CSAM, and other forms of sexual abuse.

Sharon Pursey OBE

In recognition of her work as co-founder of SafeToNet, Sharon has spent over a decade advancing both the policy frameworks and commercial models that protect children online. She operates with profound purpose, a long-term vision, and an unwavering commitment to inclusion.  Sharon has shaped both SafeToNet’s commercial growth and its legislative influence globally. Her work has directly led to the creation of safer devices, more inclusive safety protocols, and policies that reflect real-world child protection needs.

This award recognises an individual or organisation that has carried out research that has had a direct impact on improving the global response to tackling online harms.

Winner

Protect Children

In recognition of Protect Children’s outstanding contribution to preventing crimes of sexual violence against children globally through their innovative research-based holistic method. Their groundbreaking research collects evidence directly from victims and survivors of technology-facilitated childhood sexual violence, their caregivers, and online child sexual abuse offenders. Protect Children turns all research results into exceptional action to advocate for survivors’ rights, empower affected families, and promote help-seeking amongst the offenders.

This award recognises an individual or project that has made a clear impact on operational activities to tackle online child sexual abuse.

Winner

Uniform Intelligence Hub

The Uniform Intelligence Hub is a breakthrough operational tool delivering real-world impact in child protection by accelerating victim identification and transforming law enforcement’s ability to act quickly and effectively.

Funded by the Home Office and created through a unique public-private partnership involving UK Law Enforcement, the Home Office CAID Programme, CameraForensics, and the Global Emancipation Network - each playing a vital role in building a platform that now helps identify victims in minutes instead of hours, days, weeks, or months. 

Since its deployment, the Uniform Intelligence Hub has been instrumental in the identification and safeguarding of hundreds of child victims in the UK. It has become a vital component of daily investigative work, utilised by every UK police force with over 200 officers having access to the tooling.

Dr Liam Owens

In recognition of his work as the founder and CEO of Semantics 21, Dr Owens has not only transformed the capabilities of digital forensic investigations but has fundamentally reshaped what is possible in the global effort to protect children from online and digital harm. Through pioneering AI-driven solutions that have already saved countless young lives, Dr Owens has built a legacy rooted in decency, innovation, and relentless compassion.

This award recognises a technological innovation, designed to support the protection of children from exploitation online.

Winner

Shane Britten

In recognition of Shane’s work and impact through Social Protect – an innovation which detects and deletes abusive social media comments in real time to keep people in the conversation. Social protect has emerged as a groundbreaking solution that not only meets but exceeds the standards for excellence in safeguarding digital spaces. It is one of the only platforms of its kind that does not use scraping and legally connects with APIs from social media platforms such as  X, TikTok and Meta.

This award recognises a project, campaign or initiative, that has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to supporting victims of online child sexual abuse.

Child Sexual Abuse Taskforce Communications Team, NPCC Hydrant Programme

In recognition of the ‘When You Are Ready’ awareness campaign, prioritising the voices of those directly affected by online CSAE.
The campaign serves as a powerful example of a trauma-informed, survivor-led initiative that has had a meaningful impact on raising awareness and supporting victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation. By prioritising the voices of those directly affected, the campaign has not only provided vital support but has empowered survivors to share their stories and seek healing. The positive feedback and measurable success of the campaign underscore its significance in the ongoing effort to combat child sexual abuse and exploitation, and the lessons learned will inform future campaigns.

Winner

Anastasiya Dzyakava

In recognition of her work as a social innovator and young leader from Ukraine, who through her NGO #stop_sexting, was the first to raise the issue of online child sexual abuse in the country. She not only brought public attention to this critical problem but also initiated systemic changes that have influenced national policies, education, and international cooperation in child protection. Anastasiya’s tireless dedication has reshaped Ukraine’s approach to online child protection. She has introduced pioneering educational initiatives, driven policy change, and provided critical support services—all while navigating the immense challenges of war.
